Friluftsliv i Norge: Norway, summer 2025

Een hut aan een meer op Hardangervidda in Noorwegen
  • Belgium → Norwayvia Germany and Denmark
  • 12 July – 3 Aug2025
  • 4,684kilometres
  • 56stops
  • 23days

The goal of our trip was to explore Norway at a slow pace. No tourist traps, no clock, no crowds. Hiking, off-roading, good food and above all enjoying the outdoors, nature and being together. It was also Morris's debut, after 8 months of tinkering.

We left on 12 July at 4:30 from home in Belgium and drove via Germany to Denmark, where we camped the first night in the Danish greenhouse. The next day we took the ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand. From the south coast we headed inland: across the Hardangervidda, past the Folgefonna glacier and on to Bergen. Then we followed the Mjølkevegen and Jotunheimen to Rondane, mostly over the Trans Euro Trail.

On 2 August we took the ferry back from Larvik to Denmark, to the same campsite where it all began, and the day after we drove home.

Day 1 12 July

Ready for take off!

Dear family and friends,

The rough riders are ready for take off!! After months of preparation, tinkering and meal prep, the time has come!!
At 4:30 our tyres screeched out of our street!
Come and join the ride with us!

Your rough riders,
Bianca, Nicolaas, Emmi, Robs and Heleeni
And rough tail, Odile

Lunch 😋

Burrata for lunch to get fully into the Norwegian spirit 🫠
The drive is going well and over the walkie-talkies we report on the first fridges popping up in Germany 🚐

Day 2 13 July

Hirtshals Harbour

Last onto the ferry, talking about time efficiency 🫠

Kristiansand Harbour

NO WAY, WE’RE IN NORWAY!! 🇳🇴
First tears flow for our mum and Emmi 🥹
Happy we’re here 😇

Gin and tonic in Høllen 🍸

Stop rushing in Høllen
The first Norwegian stop == soaking up the atmosphere!
Høllen was the perfect location for that, a local mini seaside resort with the sun shining full blast → gintooo

Campsite “The 2 swans” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If we could have dreamed of our first camping spot in Norway, it wouldn't have been this one! Wow wow wow
A park4night spot near a little bay with a view of the typical red Norwegian cabins 🤤
Everyone delighted!
Robbe and Winnie gathered and sawed wood, Heleeni discovered fresh sea snails in the sea water for the aperitif, Emmi captured the memories on camera and our mum took care of the snacks and drinks 😋
The first fishing line was also cast, with a few strings of seaweed as the catch.. Robbe will have to practise a bit more!

Meanwhile the tortellini was defrosting in the water and we were nearly attacked by two swans 🦢

All's well that ends well, we survived this spot and could enjoy Emmi’s tortellini soup for dinner!! Yummm

😴😴😴

The morning was slow, fresh and with a lovely smell → We baked pancakes 🥞 and took our first little shower with Morris (🚙) 🧼 Yay!

Day 3 14 July

3-hour spontaneous boat trip in exchange for 🥞

During breakfast we offered a pancake to a Norwegian skipper who was passing by. He glanced over but politely declined. He forgot the keys to his boat and had to pass us again. After a second offer he couldn't turn it down and enjoyed his little pancake 😋 He left with his boat, but after about half an hour he was back. He called to us from his boat asking whether we would like to come aboard for a trip

Life is too short not to share, he said. The quote of the day 🥰

We couldn't say no to that and hop, we jumped aboard again ⚓️ With the wind in Odile's ears we sailed to Høllen to refuel. On the way back Winnie and Robbe had a fishing contest, again no prize..

The prize of the day was this spontaneous boat trip 🥰

Collecting the DNT key

The key to heaven
With this key we will get access to the cabins (hytter) where we will be staying during the next two-day hikes 🥰

Fiskebrygga 🐟

Lovely salmon for the campfire tonight 🔥

Emptying the porta potti

PURE FUN

Day 4 15 July

Bakeri Mjonøy

Today we still had quite a few kilometres planned. We want to get close to Haukeliseter so we can start the first two-day hike towards Hellevasbu tomorrow morning 🏠

To make the drive a bit more pleasant, we make a 'small' detour to this idyllic bakeri. The Norwegians rely on the goodwill of their fellow humans: take a coffee cake, leave a coin, no seller in sight. The baker keeps walking back and forth to leave the supply in the warm hut of 44 degrees.
YUM 😋

Vinje

First stop on the Hardangervidda
Odile doesn't know what hit her and runs herself ragged, 'free the Malsie!'

Campsite “The 2 meatballs” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We passed the start of tomorrow's hike 'hytte Haukeliseter' and started looking for a place to sleep. We find a little gravel track next to the main road and end up at a very idyllic camping spot! Ready to 'low gear', the overland hearts are picked up 🥰
Once we were 'levelled', Emmi took a dip in the ice-cold lake and Robbe sharpened his knives. The pot served meatballs in tomato sauce, mum's style, once again so tasty 😋
We were treated to a beautiful sunset and Robbe cast his line once more 🎣 The only catch was his own finger and the bait got caught behind a rock 🥹🥹

Day 5 16 July

Fjell hike to the cabin

The alarm went off early this morning and we got ready for the first hike of the trip, straight away a two-day one to get our calves/paws nicely rubbed in 🥴

Packed and loaded, we set off in good spirits only to get a heavy downpour over us less than 2 minutes later at the first steep climb 🌧
Rain trousers and jackets come out, as the Norwegians would say: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes”.

At the start we take a few too many breaks and it soon becomes clear that this isn't going to be a 'walk in the park'. After 3 hours of walking we have barely covered 6 km, 15 to go 🥹👌🏽

The pace was finally good and everyone started to find their stride.
The patches of snow in between did Odile's paw pads good and she let loose!

Around 16 km the mood turned, 'it's too long' said Winnie and mum kept wobbling on every stone (and there were many😂) The fun was gone and we still had a serious stretch ahead. Morale was hard to find, 'will we ever get to Hellevasbu and back to Haukeliseter tomorrow' haunted our minds. 'The only option is a helicopter' said mum half laughing 🫠

Finally Emmi shouted the liberating words 'hytte in sight!!' But hell no, it was only vaguely visible somewhere on the other side of a gigantic lake. At that moment the sky opened up again and the misery was complete, hell in Hellevasbu! 🌧
In the end everyone arrives after almost 10 hours of non-stop walking 🙃

Hytte Hellevasbu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On arrival at Hellevasbu Malsen was immediately dropped in the dog hut 🥹 she wasn't allowed inside our sleeping hut, to our great regret. Luckily she was the only dog and tired enough to fall asleep right away😴

We were given a room with 5 beds and the mood returned. Mum, dad and Heleeni took a forced nap while Robs and Emmi made delicious truffle risotto. Everyone 'revived' and we were patched up by Emmi with tiger balm. We 'flossed' our little toes and armpits thoroughly with wet wipes 🫧
Did we survive the way back? You'll read that in the next step!

Day 6 17 July

Fjell hike to Haukeliseter

This day we would do the same hike, but in the opposite direction. The setting was completely different from yesterday, a radiant sky and lovely and warm hehe
It's a unique day on the Hardangervidda 🌞🌞🌞 This time we had to protect ourselves from the sun instead of the rain 🙃
Yes yes, everyone was patched up and with rice pudding for breakfast the first kilometres melted like snow in the sun 😉
For lunch we ate a bag of adventure food (of course Winnie's was the worst 😜)
Despite the good start the hike ended up the same as yesterday. The last kilometres hurt our feet and the big annoying stones kept coming. The final descent to the hut was much steeper than we all remembered and again it took us 10 hours 🥴

For dinner we stayed at the mountain hut and ate meatballs or reindeer stew 😋
With 44 km and 1600 metres of climbing in our legs we returned, tired but satisfied, to the same gravel road as 2 days ago to spend the night
Sleep well!

Campspot “Out of necessity” ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day 7 18 July

Fossen

Day 8 19 July

Campspot “The recuperation” ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

Today is all about recuperation. We did our shopping in Odda, filled up the water tank and drove the next series of kilometres towards the Folgefonna glacier.

Once we arrived at the new camping spot Robbe spoiled us with a freshly baked loaf in the Dutch oven! After that it was time for the baby potatoes, pepe de padrón, vegetables and pieces of meat. Emmi also made a garlic butter in between. Slow cooking on a slow day.
We live at a southern rhythm in Norwegian lands. Luckily it stays light here for a long time 😉

Folgefonna glacier

A very steep road led us to Folgefonna, a glacier at only 1000 m. Pretty bizarre if you ask us, but breathtakingly beautiful 🥰

We took turns going on a mini walk to a better viewpoint, one that didn't seem suitable for Malsen's paw pads
Robs and Heleeni became local parking managers and guided the cars coming up back down again, given the limited parking and room to turn around. We also helped a Swiss couple escape a blockage caused by a Swedish car whose door hadn't been closed properly.

Ferry

Campspot “Horsefly attack” ⭐️⭐️

After the glacier hike we looked for a camping spot close to the start of tomorrow's hike. We drove up a steep gravel track with hairpin bends (Emmi and Heleeni were scared stiff) and arrived at a car park where we have to start tomorrow. Not super idyllic, but quiet and practical for tomorrow.
We ate yummy chilli con carne made by Emmi with all the toppings 🤌🏼
We had to be careful because before you knew it you were attacked by 5 horseflies at once 🥴, quickly into bed!!

Day 9 20 July

Fjell hike to Høgabu

As the name of the camping spot suggested, this was a hotspot for horseflies. It only got worse when we started the hike. Hallelujah, each 10 horsefly bites richer we managed to get through the forest. Our tube of after-bite was well used 🥴

The sun was burning again and we're slowly beginning to wonder whether we drove north at all and not to the hot south? We're not complaining, but it was quite tough while walking 🙃

The hike of 'only 12 km' once again turned into a technical piece of hiking work, not to say 'almost alpinism'.
For kids only! ;)
The lunch spot was peaceful by a little lake and refreshing for the feet 💦
Hytte in sight! We were glad we could go to the toilet 🧻

Campspot “Adults only” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Today it's an “Adults only” stay with a fantastic endless sunset with a glass of wine in a matching colour.. 🌅 ... “I wonder if our 3 musketeers have arrived in their hytte by now?”

Hytte Høgabu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - kids only

We arrived early in the afternoon at the hytte and were the first guests 😊. Robs spoiled us again, this time with delicious pancakes 😋
The first line was cast quickly too, but it was actually still too early for that 🐟😴
We enjoyed the Norwegian sun and Emmi and Heleeni took a dip in the lake 💦
For dinner we ate pasta pesto (freshly made at home) with bacon and parmesan 🤌🏽 and Robs ventured into the survival food found in the hytte, meatballs in some kind of brown sauce with pasta 🥴 'cheers'
Towards the evening the fish became more active and we saw them jumping out of the water 😮 We don't have to tell you how the fishing session ended 🎣, the images speak for themselves 😅
“Where might mum and Winnie have ended up for the night?”

Day 10 21 July

Campspot “Wusjes & midgets” ⭐️

Like real mountain goats (or rather sheep) the kids were back from their hytte by noon. To stay in Scandinavian Erasmus spirit, Heleeni chose a big sausage roasted on the campfire for lunch. How many she ate like that in Finland 🇫🇮 remains an unanswered question 🥴
A second loaf was baked by Robbe and so we were already at dinner again 😋
Had we already said that we love eating?
The pot served scampi with pearl couscous in a curry and mango sauce 🦐

Suddenly disaster struck and we were attacked again 🥹 not by horseflies this time, but by millions of biting midges. All nice and by the water, now we know better...
Surprise ice creams from Ems and Robs made the fight a little more bearable
The last night in the rooftop tent had arrived for Heleeni🌙

Day 11 22 July

Laundry in Bergen 🧺

Today Bergen was on the plan, a happy reunion for Emmi! For the bohemian rhapsody it took some getting used to dive into the busy city atmosphere.. a just-arrived cruise ship full of tourists did not help 🥴

We looked for a laundrette to give the smelly towels and underwear a breath of fresh air for the second part of the trip! The woollen socks were hung on the backpack to dry. 🫧

We ate a salmon roll at the local fish market and took one last group photo with the five of us and Malsen 🥰

Then came the heavy goodbye of our dearest Heleeni, the backseat passenger princess 👸🏽
The Polarsteps updates won't be the same anymore dear followers because yes yes I was the person who was given the heavy task of writing down the travel stories. The torch is hereby passed on! 🔥

Take care, the bees and bumblebees are waiting for me in Belgium!🐝

Byekes!
Heleeni out ✌🏼

Day 12 23 July

Campspot “The (almost) fatal crash” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Defeated and distraught we dry our tears 🥺🥺 and get behind the wheel again to continue our Northern trip 🚜🚜 ... We leave busy Bergen behind us and head back towards the Hardangervidda.

Along beautiful fjords and endlessly many tunnels (even with a roundabout) we reach the high plateau again.
This time we drive along the Northern side of the national park and find a beautiful camping spot with a view of the glacier.
This is the moment to take the Belgian pork cheeks à la mama out of the freezer and let them simmer on a low heat in the Dutch oven (by now we have this way of cooking well under control)... 🙌🙌..feast !

The weather gods and all the flying vermin 🦟 are kind to us and we can enjoy a beautiful sunset again 🌅. ... Did we mention by the way that at midnight it still isn't completely dark...

To capture this magical moment from above, Robbe decides to fly the drone once more. Full of suspense we follow the giant bluebottle from the ground 🪰 .. until suddenly the alarm goes off ..“mayday, mayday ... battery LOW 🪫 ” The drone loses altitude and decides to make an emergency landing. By then it was already 11 pm and we have to search ... but no panic.. the bluebottle was found in one piece and we can crawl back onto our roof with a good feeling... See you tomorrow 💤💤💤

Did you know: Robbe can stir in any cooking pot as if he made the meal himself 😎😎

Fjell hike Dyranut

After a few days of rest, paw balm massages and chicken fillets we decide it's time again to let Odile 🐶 enjoy the pleasures of life.. and another hike is planned on the Hardangervidda. .. Ever seen a dog jump a hole in the air?.. She runs herself ragged again and enjoys the freedom, the fresh little streams and 1001 smells 🥰

Meanwhile mum and dad do the well-known “Stones dance” and Winnie lets his boot fill up to keep mum's dry... “Love is.. ” ❤️❤️

Back at the car the heavens open but we couldn't care less because we're already “On the road again..”...

Birthday fur 🫎

A bit further on the sun shines through the clouds again and we pass a sales point of reindeer and sheep skins .. the moment to let the sun shine on mommy's face too 🥰. With a reindeer skin as an early birthday present / surprise we drive on 15 minutes later...
Thanks, love you all ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Campspot “Reindeer poop” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tonight we sleep in the middle of the forest .. The first thing we see when we get out is a little pile of reindeer droppings 🫘🫘...
Should we ? ....

Hmm.. no, better not 😔.

We are so busy plotting our route for the coming days that we all forget to take photos 🙈🙈

Of course the daily photo of the food wasn't forgotten 🤌🤌... and Odile of course was in the front row again 😅

Day 13 24 July

Mjølkevegen 🥛

Today we get up a bit earlier to be able to start on time at the Mjølkevegen or “The Milky Way” 🥛🥛. This name doesn't refer to the starry sky, but to the old milk routes that farmers in this area used to bring their milk to market.

The route offers a unique way to experience the impressive nature of Jotunheimen, with its mountains, valleys and lakes.

The road is mainly known to cyclists who want to discover the beautiful nature along dusty gravel tracks during a tough multi-day trip.

... and who says gravel tracks ... says ideal for our 4x4 🚜🚜..

Campspot “Sammy the mountain trout” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At the end of the day we decide to leave the road and do a short climb .. we end up at a fantastic location with a 360° view that makes our hearts beat faster.

Time to put Sammy the salmon (salmon trout)🐟 on our grill and enjoy the view 🥰

Did you know: Robbe can also pose with a fish as if he caught it himself 😎🙃😅

Day 14 25 July

Mjølkevegen II 🥛

After a lovely wake-up and pancakes on the campfire 🥞 🔥 we continue our trip along the Mjølkevegen around noon.

While driving we communicate via the walkie-talkie ... the wows and aahs... and say a good 100 times how nice it must be here in the snow.

Suddenly we spot a pair of cranes bathing their feet in a small lake at the side of the road. The binoculars and zoom lens come out and soon we have to call in Wikipedia to see who is right about the size of the birds 🤓🤓...

Late in the afternoon Emma and Robbe get in touch with their camper-van friends from Belgium who happen to be 40 minutes from us on the Mjølkevegen too. We turn around and look for a camping spot somewhere in the middle and wait for the white van of... 🚐

Did you know: Emma likes to stomp in fresh cow pats to keep her feet warm 🐮💩

Campspot “The reunion” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5 ⭐️ for company! 🫶🏼

With Maya, Floris and Bob 🐶 (who wins everyone's heart) we have a cosy evening. Camp spots and must-sees are exchanged and after a shared breakfast with the promised cappuccino ☕️ from our local barista aka Winnie we say goodbye and each continue our journey 👋👋

See you soon camper-van friends 🚐

Day 15 26 July

2 moose spotted!!! 🫎

Today the adrenaline shoots up when our mum sees the shadow of a moose appear between the trees.. we hesitate for a moment and put the car in reverse.. Yes there she is 🫎 (we think it's a female) !! Emma and Robbe are informed and quietly reverse back. The moose, well hidden, stays where she is and keeps an eye on us just as closely as we do on her. The binoculars are passed around and everyone is happy 🥰🥰. After a few minutes she 🫎 decides to run for it after all and disappears further between the trees...

From now on all our senses are on alert and we drive slowly on in the hope of spotting another one..

Just when we decide to drive a bit faster again, the lights go on at Morris.
This time it's Emma who sees the moose first.

Unfortunately we have no time to get the camera because she's gone again ...

We were hoping to spot reindeer on this drive but were rewarded with 2 moose 🫎🫎... lucky us ❤️

Leirdalsvegen “Sheep on the road 🐑🐑”

We continue our route and reach our fresh campspot via the beautiful Leirdalsvegen...

Campspot “Cavemen in down jackets” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tonight the campfire goes on with the main goal of “keeping us warm” 🥶🥵 .. and yes we got out the well-known black pot again, this time with spaghetti 🍝 no photo this time 😝

The washing-up (dishes) becomes a cosy affair and from our chairs the plates, forks and spoons are passed along 😂

Afterwards we quickly crawl into our sleeping bags and each peek out of our little window at the snowy peaks 🏔🏔

Day 16 27 July

DNT Leirvassbu

At the end of Leirdalsvegen, at 1405 m, you find Leirvassbu, an authentic tourist hut with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains... our base for an “easy” walk around the lake 🙈

Luckily we haven't dared the challenging hikes here yet.. 😅🥵 ... for that mum will still have to follow a “balancing on stones” course for a year..

After the walk we treat ourselves to a nice drink.. a beer for the men 🍺🍺 and gin and tonic for the women 🍸🍸 Cheers !

Fjell hike around Krykja

Today we have nothing to tell and the reporting is taken over by the home front...

Did you know : Odile 🐶 is champion at catching flying snowballs ❄️❄️

Day 17 28 July

Campspot “The Raindeers 🫎☔️” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Campspot The Raindeers 🌨 🌈🌤 gets 5 ⭐️ from us despite the changeable weather. It has everything you expect from the ideal campspot:
* view ✅️
* peace ✅️
* firepit ✅️
* water ✅️
* wood ✅️
* no 4G / wifi ✅️
* reindeer poop ✅️
* good company ✅️✅️
* good food ✅️

Badstua Vågå

While the seniors chop wood and keep the fire burning at the camp, the youngest couple enjoys a romantic sauna date on the lake 🥵❤️..

As far as original dates go, this one counts.. 💯

Campspot “The reindeer”

Because of the persistent rain we make a run for it 🏃‍♀️🏃 ... or rather drive 🚜🚜 .. looking for a spot where we can fold out our tent dry. Luckily we don't have to drive very far and can crawl into our nests dry, zip up the zips and doze off nice and warm 💤💤

Day 18 29 July

Grimsdalsvegen - TET trail

With real Norwegian weather (or a bit of rain .. read: a lot 😬😬) we start the TET trail or Trans Euro Trail today. This is a network of off-road routes throughout Europe and the way for anyone who wants to enjoy beautiful landscapes..
Via Grimsdalsvegen we have landed in the next national park: “Rondane”... wow 😮

Although the sun lets us down today, superlatives fail us .. 🥰🥰

Grimsdalshytta

Around lunchtime we knock on the door of the Grimsdalshytta in the hope that we can spend the coming night here... but no dogs allowed in the hytte.. so Malsie 🐶 flies back into the car while we enjoy a, beyond our expectations, tasty pizza. The 2 dog-friendly rooms (small hyttes) they rent out are unfortunately already reserved 🥴 so after the meal we continue our search for a dry, warm place to sleep... because the satellite images don't promise much good for the coming hours 🌨🌨🌨🌬🌬🌬

Fallet Nordre 🛖

Welcome to our cosy hytte with smokehouse 👌👌🥰.

A few km further we find a farm that rents out a few hyttes. The ground floor of this charming hut becomes our home for the next 24 hours ... stove on, feet up and let the rain fall ...

For lack of a well-stocked fridge (with meat at least) the smokehouse serves as a croque-monsieur bar..
Who would have thought we would ever eat toasties like this ... the Norwegian who built this hut certainly didn't 🫣🫣

For atmosphere and cosiness a solid 1️⃣0️⃣ 👍

Day 19 30 July

Sætervegen - TET trail II

Today we are up early because despite the warm stove and the long shower we missed our little hotels on wheels.

The cars are refilled and 'put in order' and we start a day of TET trail... 🚜🚜

A day that is mainly given colour by Cladonia stellaris or Christmas-decoration reindeer moss (we were told by our biologist Heleeni@home).
The light green, almost fluorescent yellow moss lies like a blanket on the mountains and between the trees... 🥰

In the afternoon we take the time to enjoy a walk in the fairy-tale forest, and little Odile 🐶 is also delighted by the soft mattress under her paws .

Did you know: Cladonia is often sold at home as fake trees for model railways 🌳🚞

Gårdsbutikk 👨🏼‍🌾

We have only been driving for 5 minutes when suddenly at the side of the road we see an arrow with the words: “Gårdsbuttik” or self-service farm shop ... Curious as we are, we of course turn around and follow the arrow ... party !!!🥳🥳🥳

In a cute red little house there are 2 well-filled freezers with meat (🐑&🐮), a fridge with some vegetables and an attic room with furs ..

Under the Norwegian motto “Ærlighet varer lengst” (honesty lasts longest) we fill in the daily takings book, leave money in the red mailbox and drive on a little later with tasty meat 🥩 in the fridge 😊

Campspot “Løvebur 🦁” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Like a lion in a cage is the last thing we feel in the Løvebur 🦁 ...

With a babbling little river on both sides of the hut, fairy lights on the hut and of course our campfire 🔥 as an evening ritual, we make it another evening we will remember forever ❣️

The photos speak for themselves ... 🥰

Day 20 31 July

Kvislåveien - TET trail III

Today we quietly start our return drive towards the south (departure harbour 🥺) but we still want to do some off-roading so for the 3rd day in a row we follow the TET trail 🚜🚜.

... Unfortunately with rain .. 🌨

Luckily 'drama' suits this country well and we can take some nice snaps 📷

This time with the passenger princesses at the wheel 👑

Fun in Løten

You can't change the weather but how you deal with it is entirely in your own hands.

Constantly adapting and sometimes improvising is part of this way of travelling.. but because the rain keeps pouring down in buckets we drive last-minute to Løten for more fun...

Noodhut ll is a more contemporary cabin ... 🤔 although for a toilet visit and a shower you do need to have studied a bit 🚽🪠🧻🪣

Day 21 1 August

Campspot “Lampeland 💡” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

All good things come to an end, so unfortunately this one too.
We find one more nice spot to celebrate mum's birthday 🥳 and the farewell to Norway in a fitting 'outdoor way' (although the latter calls more for a funeral meal 🥺).

We make a warm aperitif cheese (from the Gårdsbuttik) with topping, sweet potato in the fire with spinach, mushrooms and sour cream and we grill our T-bone that we also bought from the farmer.

We are curious about the meat of the cows that have been blocking our roads for 3 weeks but honesty compels us to say that the Irish Angus beef we brought from home was much better. (thanks Saerens 👌)

As dessert and birthday cake 🎂 we also bake an apple cake in the Dutch oven in between 😋👌. Yummy !!!

We enjoy the last evening on Norwegian soil and a little later the lights go on in Lampeland and in our tents . 💤💤💤

Day 22 2 August

Larvik Harbour

Today we take the ferry in Larvik and we are given the choice of the following options:

* Odile stays in the car in the hold → we don't do that ❌️
* Odile has to go in the dog kennel on deck 5 while we cosily explore the boat → we don't do that ❌️
* Odile may stay outside on deck 7 with her owners → we do that ✅️

Then:

* Odile is cold and wants to sit on her owners' laps → we do that ✅️
* the juniors are cold too and film the frozen seniors on deck with a dog on their lap from inside → they do that ✅️
* the juniors take over from the seniors → they don't ❌️ 🙃
* the juniors go tax-free shopping → they do ✅️ 🙃

Odile spoiled?... nooo .. she isn't ❌️ 🫩🫩

Campspot “The Danish greenhouse”

Hello Danish greenhouse, here we are again..
at our first campspot where it all began 3 weeks ago.

We left with 5+ 🐶 in 2 fully loaded cars 🚜🚜 ... everyone a little excited and exuberant..
each with their own expectations .

For Emma and Robbe it was exciting because it was Morris's debut after 8 months of tinkering, for Odile it was her first long trip.

For the seniors it was finally a chance to be together again with everyone and Heleen who surfed (figuratively this time) along on the roof of Morris for the first half of the trip.

The goal of our trip was to explore Norway at a slow pace.
No tourist traps, no clock, no crowds.
We wanted to let go of our Belgian land and its rhythm for 3 weeks and try to be a little bit Norwegian.
We wanted to hike a bit, off-road, eat well and above all enjoy the outdoors, nature and being together.

The weather wasn't always perfect, neither was our hair, the little fish wasn't caught and the socks weren't always changed but how we enjoyed this fantastic trip.

Norway 🇳🇴 is beautiful and has crept into everyone's heart.
We head home with a full heart, 2 toenails fewer 😅 and loads of beautiful memories.

...to be continued ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐶
